Do’s and Don’ts of Carpet Cleaning

Regular carpet cleaning is important to keep your carpet looking spotless. But in our years of experience and multiple client visits, we have seen a lot of homeowners face some issues in day-to-day carpet cleaning.

To prevent that, we have discussed these common carpet-cleaning problems and their solutions to help you clean your carpet effectively, prevent damage, and get better results.

Common Carpet Cleaning Problems & Their Solution

1. Premature Wear & Tear

Wear and tear is the most common carpet problem we’ve encountered while cleaning carpets. It happens when coarse dirt and sand accumulate on the carpet and cause damage due to a lack of regular cleaning and maintenance.

The best solution for wear and tear is to vacuum your carpet regularly. It will keep dirt and dust at bay and prevent them from damaging the delicate carpet fibers. So make vacuuming a part of your daily cleaning schedule and go over your carpet at least 2-3 times a week.

2. Stains & Spots

Stains and spills can cause major damage to your carpet if left untreated for long or cleaned using harsh chemicals. The damage can range from permanent staining to serious issues like mold and mildew growth.

We recommend treating spills quickly with a clean, absorbent cloth. It will stop the stain from spreading and prevent damage to your carpet. Then, you can treat the area with an appropriate carpet cleaner to ensure complete stain removal. But avoid rubbing too hard, or you can set the stain deeper into the carpet.

3. Carpet Fading

There can be many reasons for your carpet looking faded. But the most common reason is improper care and irregularity of cleaning. Using harsh chemical cleaners can also result in a faded carpet look.

To prevent carpet fading, you should vacuum your carpet regularly to eliminate the loose dirt and debris. Keep your window blinds closed during the day to block the harmful UV rays.

Also, only use mild cleaning solutions when treating spills and stains. If possible, consider investing in an effective carpet protector to act as a barrier against dirt, dust, stains, and UV rays.

4. Musty Odor

Another common carpet cleaning problem is the unpleasant smell caused by food and drink spills and pet urine stains. These odors linger for a long time due to a lack of proper cleaning that embeds the stain particles deeper into the carpet fibers.

The best way to remove subtle smells from your carpet is to sprinkle baking soda over the smelly areas and leave it for a few minutes. You can then vacuum the powder and empty the bag far from your home.

But if the odor is strong, you should apply an enzymatic cleaner over the spot to break down the odor-causing particles and kill the bacteria.

5. Carpet Shrinkage

Carpet shrinkage is also an issue that many homeowners deal with. It occurs when you soak your carpet for a prolonged time. But whatever the problem is, you should never overwet your carpet.

Instead, only use a small amount of moisture while removing stains and dry the spot quickly. It will prevent the carpet fibers from shrinking and also prevent mold growth. But if your carpet needs deep cleaning, consider hiring our experts for a problem-free cleaning experience.
